WHO IS MARCUS JOHNSON?

Acclaimed Jazz Keyboardist, Marcus Johnson, an independent Billboard-ranked, internationally acclaimed Jazz Keyboardist and a NAACP Image Award Nominee, has released his latest CD titled “BALLADS…In My Voice”, showcasing his soulful interpretations of some of his favorite ballads from different parts of his life and favorite artists who wrote and recorded them. Al Green’s hit “Let’s Stay Together” is the lead single and announces a musical journey of R&B Jazz from Marcus Johnson’s voice on keys, all while maintaining the MJ ‘Factor Groove’ that established him as one of the giant keyboardists of jazz funk urban music made famous by legendary jazz greats, George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Ramsey Lewis, Joe Sample, Bob James, Chick Corea, and others.

Along with his notable accomplishments as a musician, Marcus Johnson is also the President/Owner of FLO Brands, LLC which houses his wine label, FLO Wines, Inc., named “USA Today’s Top 10 Celebrity Wines”. He has also written “FLO… For the Love Of”, published in 2016 which achieved recognition as a Best-Selling Book and Author at Amazon.com.

While pursuing his JD and MBA at Georgetown, he independently produced and distributed his first CD, Lessons in Love, which sold more than 40,000 units, a phenomenal success for an unknown independent artist’s debut. His perseverance, ingenuity and creative talent caught the attention of Black Entertainment Television (“BET”) founder and businessman, Robert L. Johnson, who invested and partnered with Marcus to establish Marimelj Entertainment Group which housed the Three Keys Music label, a recording studio, and two publishing companies. Marcus Johnson has released more than 16 Billboard charted CDs and under Three Keys Music, Marcus Johnson produced and released label national jazz artists Michael Lington, Jaared Arosemena, Bobby Lyle, Nick Colionne, Alyson Williams, and smooth jazz saxophonists Phillip “Doc” Martin and Brian Lenair.

Johnson resides in Silver Spring, MD, has one daughter, Chase, and is continuing his vision “For the Love Of” in music, books and life.

AUDIENCE

Marcus’s core audience are Smooth Jazz/ R&B lovers ages 45+ and showing strong growth in the 35 to 45 segment since he’s incorporated more elements of R&B and Hip Hop influence into his performances. Having a deep connection to his audience is what fuels his longevity and success and gives him the ability to appeal to a wide range of crowd interests when on stage. From throwbacks to current “groovy” hits, his stage presence is tailored with one objective: to help you “Catch the FLO”.

With the release of his book, “FLO (For the Love Of)”, and the launch of FLO Wines, Johnson understands the importance of adding value to his offering. His brand is establishing itself as “Lifestyle Therapy” and he is focused on creating an experience and not just a performance.

NEW ALBUM 2019

Johnson knows which songs to cover with that piano lead. Check out Any Time Any Place, and one of my favorites on the album Musiq Soulchild‘s So Beautiful.

A must for romantic souls and lovers of soft smooth jazz! This is Marcus Johnson at his best!
— Patrick Van de Wiele, www.smoothjazz.eu
Johnson finds a riff he likes, a phrase on the upper-register piano keys, and his fingers move like hummingbird wings as he repeats and repeats and repeats. You can tell from the faces of the other band members that this is uncharted territory, but they are all sticking with the groove, which becomes deeper and deeper and deeper.
